Getting there

From Kuantan town, take the coastal road and follow the sign to Teluk Chempedak. If you opt for public transportation, catch the No 39 bus from local bus station at Kuantan and it will take you to Teluk Chempedak for only 60 cents. Taxi is also available for only RM5.


Attraction

Affectionately known simply as "T.C." by the locals, Teluk Chempedak is the closest beach attraction for the city of half-a-million dwellers. Hence, it is not uncommon to see the beach is filled with evening strollers, kite flyers, windsurfers and even swimmers. Engage yourself in water sports at Telok Chempedak. This beach is one of Kuantan's main sightseeing attractions for tourists and locals alike due to its suitability for water sport activities such as swimming, surfing, sun-bathing, sailing, and jet skiing. Or, take a stroll on the wooden walkway at Teluk Pelindung nearby, and watch the waves breaking on the rocks of the promontory. Its casuarina-lined beach is, however, quite rocky at certain places and the waves are often rough.

Go for a jungle trek there and observe the diversity of trees lining the forest and watch out for the assorted varieties of birds, insects, squirrels and monkeys there. Beware of the macaques, as they can be quite a nuisance.

The restaurants and food-stalls catering local and western dishes are just nearby, all fronting the white sandy beach. So you can feel the sea breeze while you take your meal. Even a McDonald drive-through outlet is there, to cater to those with foreign taste. Teluk Chempedak is Kuantan's most popular beach and the crowds, especially during the week-ends attest to this.

The main hotel fronting the beach is the Hyatt Regency Kuantan Hotel, an international class hotel, with modern dining and banquet facilities. This hotel offers tennis courts and other sports facilities, and not forgetting, a lively discotheque to swing the night away. As part of the Hyatt international chain, its rooms are upgraded to cater for tourists from all over the world.
Teluk Chempedak beach is approximately 5km away from the town of Kuantan. If you are coming from the town centre, go towards the east direction to Jalan Teluk Sisik. Go all the way to the end and you will reach Jalan Teluk Chempedak. You will reach a dead end where a MacDonald Restaurant and Hyatt Regency Hotel are located. Park your car and walk towards the beach.

This is one of the main beach that locals go to during the weekends and after office hours to unwind and for a time of leisure with family members. This beach is an enclosed bay and is a good place for water sports activities such as swimming, jet-skiing, surfing or sun-bathe. Kite flying during the windy days is a definite thing to do for children of all ages. During the monsoon season from November to March, do be careful with the sea as the waves can be quite rough. Hence, it is not recommended for you to swim here during this time.


Facilities


Toilet facility is provided for your convenience after your time at the beach. If you need to fill your empty stomach, there are a few food stalls that serve a variety of food and beverages.
One of a good and reasonably priced shop that you can go at Teluk Chempedak beach is known as Song Fatt shop. The owner is very friendly and sell goods such as kites, drinks, fruits, souvenir and tit-bits. This shop is located at the left hand side of the beach where the raised platform that leads you to another beach.
Other restaurants are opened until after midnight during the weekends. MacDonald restaurant is just located by beach.

Platform

A platform was recently constructed from Chempedak Beach to another beach. You will discover many huge stones as you walk towards this beach. At times, you may be able to see groups of students doing their study on the rocks here. The sand here is darker in colour compared to the sand at Chempedak Beach. Notice the wild life such as monitor lizards and the macaques monkeys as you stroll along the forest.
